I have a workshop in my garage, which was originally a carriage house built in 1900. It’s spacious enough to hold all my woodworking equipment, including a workbench I built myself from a plan. Over the years, I’ve made radiator covers, tables, and a variety of smaller projects. Looking ahead, I’d like to try building chairs or perhaps a picnic bench for the backyard.
I’ve also taken on restoration projects around the house. Recently, I refurbished the windows in the sunroom, which hadn’t been painted or reglazed in decades. Some of the wood window guides needed replacement, and having the right tools to cut strips to size made the job easier. I also built custom wooden storm windows for the first floor, designed so I can swap out glass or screens as needed. Currently, I’m replacing the old carriage house windows with vinyl single-hung replacements.
Beyond that, I built a shelter for firewood in front of the carriage house, extended the decking for easier access, and added steps. We also upgraded the electrical service to the carriage house — a welcome improvement that makes the workshop even more functional.
